ITunes: All we are saying is give pieces a chance

We’re still waiting for the release of the Beatles catalog in digital form (see ” ‘Virtually settled,’ eh? May I see your poetic license, Mr. McCartney“), but to tide us over, Apple is serving up another helping of solo work from one of the Fab Four. Apple announced today that 16 of John Lennon’s solo albums are now available at the iTunes store, in both copy-protected versions and pricier DRM-free versions. To sweeten the deal, exclusive video content will be included for the next 30 days with the albums “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band,” “Sometime in New York City,” “Walls and Bridges,” “Milk and Honey” and the collections “Anthology” and “Working Class Hero.” The association with Apple has the blessing of Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, who said, “John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners,” and noted Beatles fan Steve Jobs pronounced himself “thrilled.” In May, iTunes added Paul McCartney’s catalog of solo albums. Still no word, though, on which we’ll see first on iTunes — the Beatles recordings or the complete solo works of Pete Best.
