If you hurry, you can still pay full price for a PS3
It’s not like Sony needs credibility problems, but company President Ryoji Chubachi may be setting himself up for a whopper if mounting evidence of an impending PS3 price cut proves true. Unless some tricky parsing is involved, his declaration that “at present we have no plans” to chop the game console’s price sounds pretty definitive.
What then to make of this Circuit City ad scheduled for distribution July 15 proclaiming a $100 price break on the PS3, bringing it down to a mere $499? Or this report from an anonymous merchandising manager that said ad is not some exclusive promotion but representative of a retail-wide price cut that actually goes into effect next Friday? Reaction to Chubachi’s denial has been on the skeptical side, with Engadget calling it “a denial that reeks of non-denial.” Whatever — we apparently won’t have long to wait before the truth emerges. But if you’re on the verge of fulfilling the urge, another week won’t hurt.

The guys at game stop told me the same thing last night. According to one of the guys, they received word from their main office about a $100 price cut to be announced at e3.
